SENSYBLE 2020 is a workshop held at the 50th Informatiktagung 2020, the annual conference and the most important meeting point of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) e.V., the largest computer science association in the German-speaking world. The 50th annual conference INFORMATIK takes place in Karlsruhe under the motto "Back to the Future".

Workshop Overview

Smart technologies are increasingly present in our everyday life, rapidly changing the environments in which we live or work, as well as the way in which we travel beween them. In order for these technologies to be accepted by laypersons, they must be user-friendly. This is made possible by increasingly sophisticated human-machine interfaces of today's information and communication (ICT) systems. Such systems, on the one hand, communicate with humans, on the other hand they require external services which they obtain from a globally networked environment. Therefore, “communication” in such settings refers to both the communication between technical systems as well as the communication between ICT systems and humans. While the reliance on external services offers great opportunities for the development and deployment of adaptive algorithms, it also comes with risks, both for security and safety. The challenges inherent in this research area cover various disciplines of computer science ranging from embedded systems, systems engineering, telecommunication, mobile computing, computational theory, cryptography, computer graphics and computer vision to artificial intelligence.

The SENSYBLE workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners from various disciplines of computer science who work in the area of enhancing living environments with information and communication technologies. It is organized by the SENSYBLE doctoral college, a joint research initiative by the Computer Science and Mathematics department of the Goethe-University / Frankfurt am Main and the department of Design, Computer Science, Media (DCSM) of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences / Wiesbaden.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

Submissions that focus on a holistic view and vertical integration aspects of smart systems for better living environments are particularly welcome.

Call for Contributions [TXT|PDF]

SENSYBLE is a forum for researchers who deal with IT systems in the area of private life in academic and non-academic environments. The workshop aims to bring together people from different computer science disciplines (e.g. Safety, Security, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Engineering, Communication and Networks).

SENSYBLE strives for an interesting, interactive, inclusive, and diverse program. The workshop will follow a highly interactive format. For selected presentations, ample time for discussion among all participants will be allocated. There will also be a final panel discussion on research topics, research challenges and a possible research roadmap in this area.

We kindly invite workshop contributions in a two-stage process: First, one-page abstracts (in PDF) of up to 3,000 characters must be submitted. These will be reviewed and selected by our program committee, and selected submissions will be presented in the workshop at INFORMATIK 2020. All presenters will also be invited to submit a final paper for the workshop proceedings of INFORMATIK 2020. Final papers will again be peer reviewed by the program committee before they are accepted for publication. All reviews are single-blind.

See the detailed description of the types of contributions and the submission instructions for details.

Proceedings

The full workshop proceedings containing the final versions of the papers will be part of the GI Jahrestagung INFORMATIK 2020 proceedings to be made available electronically in the GI Digital Library.

A collection of all papers to be presented at the SENSYBLE 2020 may be downloaded here: SENSYBLE 2020 Preprint.
