But this week I saw something truly lovely. I was pedaling uptown on the Second Avenue bike path and found myself (as I often am) becoming irritated with a man on a Citi Bike who was pedaling very slowly in front of me. I rang my bell to let him know I was behind him, but it wasn’t long before I found out why he was biking at such a measured pace: He was practicing — and I don’t mean practicing riding a bike. He was practicing his singing. A beautiful, operatic baritone rang out into the summer morning as I passed him. I rode the rest of the way to work wearing an enormous smile.
