I applaud Oregon, Illinois and now California for taking up such an important issue and creating state-sponsored plans that will help close the estimated $6.6 trillion gap between what Americans currently have in retirement savings and what they will need. In New York City, our future looks especially bleak: This dangerous reality has prompted my office to work with Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Council to create a city-sponsored retirement savings plan that all New Yorkers would have access to. We all deserve to live our golden years in comfort. LETITIA JAMES New York The writer is the public advocate of New York City.
