The election is truly rigged against him — thanks to our democracy and our freedom of the press. It is rigged so that a candidate not capable and fit to serve as our leader will not be elected. History has shown that entire societies have made critical mistakes in bringing bad people to power, and they have had to pay the price. This cannot happen in the United States. STANLEY NOWASKI Middle Island, N.Y. To the Editor: The Times has rightly taken Donald Trump to task for claims of a “rigged” election. However, there may be more to Mr. Trump’s claims than meets the eye. A fair election requires not only adequate procedures but also a fair and balanced discussion of the issues, so that voters can make an informed choice. On the same day as your news article, one of your columnists, Is it so outlandish to claim than an election with this sort of rhetoric is not substantively, as opposed to procedurally, fair? MICHAEL A. LIVINGSTON Cheltenham, Pa. To the Editor: Amy Chozick suggests that Hillary Clinton was “effectively paralyzed” and that her campaign was “barely heard from” during the past week (“ LYLE SWENSON Apache Junction, Ariz. To the Editor: Of all the vile comments that have come from the mouth of the Republican candidate for president, this one about a woman who claimed he forcibly kissed her hurt me the most: “Look at her. … I don’t think so.” “Look at her.” That comment stings, or should sting, every self-respecting woman. It takes me back to my student days when we spent time in Greenwich Village. We were a group of young students sitting in a booth at the Cedar Tavern. Some fellow made a remark about having an orgy. He went around the table, pointing at several girls, and saying, “You’re invited.” When he came to me, he said, “You can be the towel girl.” Sixty years later, those words bring tears to my eyes. SARA JANE BERMAN East Williston, N.Y. To the Editor: Re “ Isn’t Donald Trump, in crassly saying that one of his accusers wouldn’t be his “first choice,” once more admitting all the behavior he is trying to deny? NANCY COATES Mission, Kan. To the Editor: Re “ Stephen Hiltner muses about the proliferation of Donald Trump signs he encountered along the road, but I believe that he has overlooked the fairly obvious reason that ones for Hillary Clinton were noticeably missing and outnumbered: fear. Given the unapologetic vitriol of Trump followers against Mrs. Clinton, many Democrats might be justifiably concerned about property damage or other forms of retributive tactics if they posted signs in her favor on their front lawns. NANCY P. MORGENSTERN Cherry Hill, N.J. To the Editor: With all the conversation and debate over the email hacking scandals this political cycle, I’m curious as to why little to nothing has been written about why the emails of the Republican nominee have not been hacked. Isn’t that odd? Surely a fair, unbiased hacker would snoop around both sides of the aisle, right? RHONDA STRATTON Chicago
